96 Jaguar XJ6 starts fine, idles at 800 in neutral
the crank sensor is favorite they are unreliable that explaines why the trans not getting engine speed signal unless its a manual box and that code will allways be logged advise start by checking for water ingress in engine control module located lower rh a post then change crankshaft position sensor or better still try and borrow one from a good running car
1996 jaguar xj6 will not start no response on remote suspect security system. any thoughts?
does the check engine light go off after a few seconds of swiching on without cranking engine?if so i suspect your car is a X300 model if so a common cause of this is a corroded/open circuit wire in or around one of the connectors under bonnet/hood at rhf around or below the washer bottle filler behind headlamp i think it was yellow/white wire in a white connector. its the ok to start signal coming from the security and locking module which is under the boot/trunk fuse box which can fail also if you get a wring diagriam for engine managment system that would make the job a lot easier i gave mine away when i retired otherwise i could have emailed the relevant part good luck
Fuel pump relay location
Hi irvj6ohn:
The 1993 and 1994 XJ6 Fuel Pump Relay is located in the trunk of the vehicle on the right hand rear side. It is light blue and black in color.
I hope this helps.

Save your self the time.. Get locksmith will give you new key for less $100.. Made on the spot.. May ask you for ID and proof that you car.. Most on call take 20 min with a file and good feel and see how easy they csn make a key is nuts and why I have hidden fuel line and ignition shut off in my truck... Good luck save the time get the locksmith and get magnet and leave key hidden under bumper for future mishaps

Can you tell me the "normal" PSI cylinder compression for a Series 3 XJ6 Jaguar
SINCERE Apologies for the SPAM answer you got from jamessizer... (a book peddler).
No serious mechanic is EVER going to tell
you a "NORMAL" compression (nor should they).
As a well running engine runs through it's possible LIFE-CYCLE... It is highly probable the cylinder compression can decrease significantly (harmlessly... smooth as silk).
The ONLY reason to troubleshoot with a COMPRESSION GUAGE is to detect engine imbalance (like a dead cylinder)... looking for
burnt / cracked piston, burnt valves etcetera...
If the compressions are similar... no MECHANICAL conclusions should be drawn from any specific pressures...
Hope this helps your understanding... especially of Jaguar Engines.
Factory manuals for my Jags were quite expensive...
but also very informative... and there are some serious ENTHUSIASTs volunteering here if you care to elabortate on what issues you are having...
