Did you install a new fuel pump? Because the fuel level sender is part of the pump. There are hoses that connect to vapor recovery from the tank check and make sure they are not lose. Take the cap off and clean where it threads in. I have seen where gunk builds up and does not let the cap seat properly because it isnt going all the way in.get a new cap at the dealership. I bought new caps at the parts store and the light still came on.got the correct one at dealer and as soon as i started my car the light went off .

give it a little time to settle down a bit.sometimes you will never see the light again. transmissions are bullet proof on these models.it wont hurt to check transmission fluid level while you are at it. good luck and god bless.

You need to check the pulley alignment of all the pulleys, they should all be in a perfectly straight line, otherwise the belt will squeal

Not sure the car can pass nox without egr. Why did you bring it to CA? A draw on the battery would not affect the smog test. What you would need to do is buy the intake and exhaust manifolds with egr ports and also the computer and wiring harness that will make the egr system work. Not worth the effort unless you are in love with this car.

check if your car has a speed sensor located in the diff rear cover if so from memory early face lift xj40 models used that sensor for the cruise only signal . the speedo signal came from the abs circuit. does the speedo fail at the same time? the sensor in the diff used to change spec when the oil increased in temp whatever sounds like the speed signal is at fault, blue wire i think at the seed control module good luck

if your car is the xj40 model the lighiting logic module is under the fascia close to the lighting switch but i think the problem is more likely to be a earth problem or simply the bulbs the twin headlamp car has one twin filament bulb on the outer and one single on the inner so if both main beam filaments fail thats what will happen

Have you checked (or wired around) the fuel pump relay?

same as mine just put key in ignition and start it ands alarm will go off .i put mine down to the fact that its a show car so its left in garage with battery disconnected .

Just a shot in the dark. If your key has the magnetic chip in it, the chip may be week. Try another key if you have one. We have a key without a chip in it we hide under the car. It will turn the ignition but will not crank(dealer told us that). One more thing the dealer who made the key told us not to try cranking the car with it because the car could think someone is stealing it and shut down till a dealer input codes to allow the car to run again.

The battery light is on because there is a problem in the charging system for the battery, have the charging system tested by a parts store like Autozone, it is free. If the Alternator is defective I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY IT FROM AUTOZONE. Purchase a rebuilt unit from the new car dealer parts, they are much more reliable and the extra cost is worth the money.

one of the pistons in the brake master cylinder is poss stuck at the bottom of its stroke or the return spring has broken, dont take any chances with brakes change that master cylinder

U need to find out exactly what the issue is. Is the compressor turning on? If so is it charged properly. If not turning on, is the charge low? Evaporator is nothing more than a radiator - instead of water in it you have the refrigerant expanding in there and getting real cold and then having a fan blow the air over it. That is AC simplified! Removal of Evaporator not recommended unless it is proven that it absolutely has to be replaced because there is a leak in it. If no leak, leave the sucker alone!.

There is a FLOAT in the gas tank that bobs up & down in the gas in which the gauge gets a signal from to let u know your fuel level. they can go bad & send erratic readings to the gauge. (like a toilet bowl float) That is the most common cause of your problem. Good Luck
