Depending on the mileage and condition it could be plugged catalytic converters or possibly fuel/air starvation pumps,filters,lines etc or the more complicated things that would require a scan tool and a good mechanic to find like a throttle position sensor or a crank sensor could also cause this!

It's not unusual for a thermostat housing to get stuck in place. Try tapping it sideways with a hammer (gently) from different positions to loosen the bond, or stick a screwdriver in a bolt hole and see if you can lever it off (again, gently). Plan B would be to get a sharp utility knife and try to work it into the gap between the housing and the engine. IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to remove ALL old gasket, sealant, etc., from the mating surfaces before installing the new gasket. Otherwise, it will leak.
