How do I change the cambelt on a 2008 Hyundai Getz 1.4
with your eyes closed and one hand behind your back if you follow my smple instructions ,firstly remove no1 spark plug and bring it to TDC using a long thin screwdriver then drill a 10mm hole in the bellhousing to align with starter ring gear ,then tap it and make a long bolt with a point on the end by grinding it down but a put a nut on it first so you can back it off so the thread is ok ,then screw this into the hole to lock the flywheel ,now its safe to remove the front pulley bolt as this car is on a taper with no keyway on the end of the crank, then take the pulley off and this allows removal of the timing cover .Now a touch of white paint on the cam pulleys to the back plate ,slacken the belt adjuster and remove the belt ,then take of the adjuster and any idler pulley ,use a thin screwdriver to remove the thin seal ,drop into a drop of petrol and clean out best you can ,then a can of brake and clutch cleaner and spray teh bearing balls a bit ,shake dry light oiling with engine oil the repack with lm waterproof grease ,not the black grease for a drive shaft .Refit the seal then refit the idlers and put the belt on making sure the cams dont mose a pair of mulgrips help here to hold the belt to the cam gear .Once all on and tight refit teh covers and the front pulley then tighten the pulley bolt with a decent snap on knuckle bar of 80cms and a tube over the end as you need somewhere around 120lbs to stop the crank gear pulley wheel from turning on the taper as you what happens if this moves ,yes new valves ,simple isnt it ,also you will need a bottle jack with some wooden blocks to support the sump whilst you remove engine mounting wood under the sump or you will break it as its ally .Should take no more than two hours including tea break and a ciggy
