1999 GMC Sonoma. How do I bypass my security system if the wires are red and white orange and white and yellow.

I thought I answered this? Want to bypass your vehicle security system? The short answer is you can't! All modern cars have alarms and immobilizers. There is a transponder in the key and a receiver around the ignition lock. If both are present, the ECM (engine control module) or BCM (Body Control Module) releases power to the ignition circuit or the starter. When you turn the key, the starter spins the engine and you get a spark. If any one of those three items are not in the chain, you get the engine to turn, but no spark. There is no way to beat the system. You have to fix what is wrong, not find a way around it. The immobilizer is in place to stop exactly what you are trying to do. .. 2002 GMC Sonoma replace starter.

Not an easy job due to the space being tight. You need a jack, a set of axle stands, a socket set and a set of wrenches. https://community.cartalk.com/t/how-in-the-hell-do-you-get-a-starter-out-of-a-2001-gmc-sonoma-2wd-4-3l/146170/7 ..

2001 GMC Sonoma SLS. The blinkers stopped working. Dash indicator not lighting up.

Question edited for maker, clarity and typos. Question moved to model category. The clock spring only involves the horn, the air bag and any controls that are on the moveable part of the steering wheel. If the switch is on the steering column it is likely to be the switch. What you can try first is undoing connectors from the steering column, spray them with electrical contact cleaner and remake the connection. For the dash lights, check the dimmer wheel. ..

1998 GMC Sonoma. How to fix wiring to a tail light on it please?

Fixing the wiring to a tail light on a 1998 GMC Sonoma typically involves a few steps. Here's a general guide on how to fix the wiring:

Check the Bulb: Start by checking the bulb. If the bulb is burnt out, replace it with a new one. If it's still not working, move to the next step.

Check the Fuse: Check the fuse for the tail lights in the fuse box under the hood or in the cab. If the fuse is blown, replace it with a new one of the same amperage.

Inspect the Wiring: Inspect the wiring between the tail light and the fuse box for any damage or breaks. If there's damage, you may need to replace the wiring.

Test the Circuit: Use a test light or a multimeter to test the circuit. Start by connecting the test light or multimeter to the positive wire (usually red) and then touch the negative wire (usually black). If the test light illuminates or the multimeter shows a reading, the circuit is working.

Check the Ground: Check the ground wire (usually black) for any damage or breaks. If there's damage, you may need to replace the ground wire.

Fix the Wiring: If you find any damaged or broken wiring, repair it using wire connectors or electrical tape.

Reassemble: Once the wiring is fixed, reassemble everything and test the tail lights.

If you're not comfortable working with wiring or if the issue is not resolved after these steps, it's best to take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic or electrician for further diagnosis and repair.

My 99 GMC sonoma wont start..

ok... there are a couple of things you can do. i must have miss typed on the cap, rotor . in the back of the motor where the plug wires conect that is the cap that is bolted to the distributor with two torques bits that i believe are t15 in size. there may lie your problem. the posts inside are made of aluminum and they get coroded and dont alow the proper spark. the other commen problem is the exhaust the catalitic converter becomes pluged up. something you can try is remove one of the oxigen sensors and try to start it up if it runs the cat needs replaced. the o2 sensor is a 7/8 nut to remove it. give it a try

Heater doesnt work blows cold air, replaced

This is what I did to solve the exact same problem.I got a pump that you can hook to a drill that has garden hose connections on it.I made 2 hoses to pump into my heater core and hook to the pump. I bought some radiator cleaner at Auto Zone and put it in a 5 gallon pail with about 2 gallons of hot water.I pumped the cleaner from the pail into the OUTLET side of the heater core.(By going in the outlet side you are back flushing the core.) I put an old cloth over the top of the bucket and let the outcoming cleaner run onto this cloth acting as a filter for the dirt coming out of the heater core and let the pump run about 10 minutes. Believe me,A LOT!!!!!!!!!!! of dirt, rust etc. came out of my heater core. The heat now works excellent! Good luck.

2002 GMC Sonoma 4.3 Vortec revs high when first started.

aLL FUSES GOOD. all cold engines race high ,engine cold and the more cold the more high RPM. 1500 is PAR for RPM cold, is yours higher? black SOOT is a huge bad RICH sign. of greatly needed engine service. no code told P03xx what is XX.? (sad face) we can';t guess codes we need to see them. sorry and all off them. I thank also your scan tool is not certified for GM OEM scan codes. P1xx up.p2XX ? or is super old scanner useless or just cheap $17 code reader ? also useless in the real world. also did you know P0300 to P0306 means misfire. (weak combustion) lots of clauses. ever do full tune up, in 20 years, spark plugs , spark wires distrib. cap and rotor? ICM bad,? ????? Map sensor clogged IAC valve stuck open , RPM not regulated. Fuel pressure was low, how low?, not told PSI low does not cause rich burn but sure lean burn and misfire sure. spec is.fuel real PSI test is 60-66?psi. RUNNING engine. if not pump or FPR are bad. yes pumps can fail weak easy. the test is called the Injector fuel pressure balance test in the SM, service manual. the rules are.(gas)_ 1: good engine, (compression at spec) EGR not stuck open and CATS not melted closed. 2: spark good, we can not burn fuel with dead or weak spark. we call this a tune up,. (or doing the service points (today) 3: bad fueling, last fuel is last. in the due to Physics. bad fueling can be caused by (short list) bad MAF , or MAP, FPR, PUMP, or injectors leaking or clogged. IAC stuck makes idle controls dead. to find it take real tools , and gauges, a real scan tool , 2008 or newer OBD2 scan tool is best, for sure GM rated GM has its own OEM factory codes. (vast) or get the car serviced in a shop.,,, Bingo they have the tools! here is your spark schematic all these can produce P03xx codes too, but was never told. https://imgur.com/a/gw0cHYR

I have a 1996 gmc Sonoma. Headlights will work sometimes.

Consider the dimmer switch on the steering wheel; the wires from it wouldn't affect the tail lights, but could possibly affect the headlights. Hopefully loose wires from the assy is the problem.. replacing the unit might be difficult. or expensive.

I cant remove the rearview mirror button to fix

Hi Teresa,Yes, you are correct. The mirror bracket (the small piece - see picture below) has to come out of the mirror stem in order to get the thing glued back on to the windshield.MOST GM vehicles have either a Hex or Torx head screw that holds onto the bracket. (see picture below)If your mirror does not have this screw, then it is held by a spring clip (which is what I think you are describing). If this is the case, look at the bottom edge of the mirror stem/bracket assembly. There will be a small hole (slot) between the mirror stem and the mirror bracket. Take a paper clip and shove it as far as possible up in the hole. This will push and hold the spring clip back so you can slide the bracket out of the mirror stem. Please note that you are only trying to get the paper clip BETWEEN the spring clip and the bracket - the spring clip does not come out of the mirror stem assembly without breaking things. (Sorry, I do not have a picture of this type of fixture)When you go to glue the bracket onto the windshield, make sure that all of the old glue is cleaned off first. A razor blade works well for this task. Then follow the directions in your mirror glue kit for applying the primer and glue.Make sure the bracket is oriented correctly when you stick it to the windshield. Some mirror glues are very unforgiving and will stick almost instantly, making corrections nearly impossible. One more hint: If the old glue (or the outline of the old glue) is still on the windshield, use a "sharpie" pen to trace around it on the OUTSIDE of the windshield. This will serve as a "locator" once you have cleaned and primed the windshield in preparation for the bracket to get glued. The pen mark can be cleaned off with regular windshield washer fluid when you are finished.10_17_2011_6_34_50_am.jpg10_17_2011_6_35_25_am.jpg
