1991 Sonoma (GMC). I need to replace the ignition
You don't have to remove the steering wheel. Just lower the steering column and remove the shrouds. Call your local library and ask if they have either alldata or mitchell on demand shop manuals in digital format. Then print out the instructions. If not, buy a short subscription to alldatadiy.com or eautorepair.net
1995 2.2 GMC Sonoma service
These old style check engine lights are pretty much just service reminders, and as such can be reset generally just by taking off the negative battery cable for about 1 hr. Still need to read codes, though. Check all your vacuum lines.
Not getting fire after changing the coil, rotor button and sensor in distributor but still 99 gmc sonoma won't start
My first concern is: how do you know there isn't fire? Did you
1- Check it with a screwdriver inside the spark plug wire at spark plug end to ground. This isn't the right way.
2- Have you check fire with HEI spark tester.
(The right way). To see a spark with the tester there will be 25k the spark to jump to ground and it test the coil working properly.
Now the fire system or ignition spark work this way.
When the engine is turning up to 400rpm the camshaft gear inside the engine makes distributor shaft turning. We often see the distributor gear at the end worn like an eaten apple.
Remove the Dist. Cap Somebody starts the engine look for the rotor if it turns. This will tell you the gear is OK.
P.S; What you call the SENSOR = Ignition Module just to let you know
Hope it helps

Where is the oil filter located at on a 2004 gmc 4x4 Sonoma pick up
If you look under the front of the truck, you should see a metallic engine protector cover and on the front side you will see a small hinged door with one screw holding it shut. You turn that screw out with a screwdriver probably a half a turn and it will pop out and the door will open giving you great access to the filter. Pretty slick design on their part.
Alarm in my 2002 gmc Sonoma goes off when I open the door with the key. Lost remote. Can I disable the alarm without messing other things up?
Door Key Switch
The BCM monitors the door key switches in order to disarm the CTD system. When the lock cylinder turns in order to unlock the door, the switch grounds the disarm input to the BCM.
The key lock input to the BCM is probably missing , BCM doesn't see it . So it think's your breaking into the vehicle. Did you try the passenger door to see if it will disable the alarm .

Content Theft Deterrent (CTD) Does Not Disarm with Key Lock
The factory service repair manual has a 23 step diagnostic procedure . An you would need a factory scan tool to find the correct fix.
Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
With a scan tool, observe the door key switch parameter in the Body Control Module (BCM) security data list.
Does the scan tool display INACTIVE?
