What is the valve setting on a 292 6 cylinder
assuming you have hydraulic lifters you can set the nuts on the rocker arms so you can see 4 threads down the stud to the top of the nut and start the engine then one at a time back the rocker arm nuts out till they clack then tighten them till the clacking stops and go in 1/4 turn more on the nut and it is set
2000 gmc c6500 wont start
We have a 2000 GMC 6500 454 engine. Truck will shut off, we turn off the the ignition wait for about 4 or 5 minutes. Doing waiting time, if you turn the ignition part way on, you can't hear the fuel pump, and if you try to start, it will not start . But after the 4 or 5 minutes, when you turn the ignition part way on, you hear the fuel pump, then it will start. It will shut down with a heavy load or even with out any load. It seems to do it more often when it's really hot out. It will shut down as much as 10 times.
Truck overheats I changed t-stat and antifreeze
IF you have a viscous fan hub driving the fan then replace it with a new unit. IF electric fan/s then check fuses and fans for correct operation. Have a coolant system check done and have a flow test done on the radiator. Ensure that the radiator fins are not blocked up with mud/snow or paper/plastic. Have a compression test done to check for head gasket or cracked head.
I replaced the sensor, thermostat and the
Try taking the wire of the temp sender unit and touching the engine and see if the gauge goes up to hot. If so then replace the temperature sender unit ( different to the sensor unit)
Fuel filter location
If the truck is gas and older than 2005 it should be along the frame between the tank and the engine.
Timing Problem
move all of your plug wires forward clockwise one hole and try again.
Cant get rotor off vehicle
Depending on the year and model, it may just be rusty- frozen on the hub. Sometimes you have to use a very large hammer to break it loose. But using a hammer may damage it beyond the point of being useable.
Timing chain
bent push rods could have been caused when the chain broke and not from the chain been replaced wrong or the timing out.if the engine was running when the chain broke the cam would have stopped leaving all the valves in the same positon as the mometum of the fly wheel continued to turn the pistons in the cylendars could hav come up and hitting the valves and bending the push rods. and or damaging the cylendar head.recommend removing the head and have it checked for damage, as well as replacing the bent push rods, and cylendar gaskit. once the head is checked and the valves are seated well. then replace and follow instructions in the set up for the pistons and cam prior to replacing the chain and setting the timing.I hope this was helpful.
Timing chain
If push rods are bent the chances are thet your thoughts are correct, your valve timing is incorrect, regards Mike
