1985 Dodge Ramcharger fuel gauge not working
The problem most likely is not the gauge itself. It could be faulty wiring between the gauge & sending unit, or most likely a bad sending unit in the tank. Visit Ramchargercentral.com, do a thread search on fuel gauge issues, and you'll find a ton of info. If you need anything clarified, post up on the vehicle help board...the members there are happy to help!

Did your vehicle come with a tow package? If it did, you can crawl under the rear of the vehicle and locate a supplemental wiring harness adapter plugged into both the left and right sides that is used to give you a trailer pigtail. Remove the adapter from both sides and reconnect the wiring harnesses as if there was never an adapter. This may be the cause of your problems.
1989 dodge ram pick up losing compression will start and idle fine but when in gear it has no power
You have an intake vacuum leak. The vacuum is sucking in water and causing the truck to run rough. It may get better when the truck is hot because this sometimes causes the plastic or gaskets to swell closing up the leak. To confirm ... when it's cold you can start the truck and spray some brake cleaner or quick start around the sides of the intake and you will see the engine will rev up a little.
Hope this helps.

Have you tried setting the idle in drive? If you try that, have a helper setting in there with their foot on the brake and parking brake set. I've seen many high mileage vehicles, that wouldn't idle correctly. Other than an engine overhaul, we would set the idle in drive. At least it wouldn't die every time you came to a stop sign or red light. Yeah, when you put it in park or neutral, the idle would go high, but, you don't drive it in park or neutral.
You can get a carb kit for the carb, see if it helps? The carb kit should have all the instructions you need to adjust settings. In the past every carb kit I used had plenty of instructions. I looked at rockauto.com, they had a carb kit for your vehicle. Find the model number on your carb and make sure it matches their carb number.
If your carb is a holley, you can check the holley web site. I haven't been there in a long time, I don't know if they would have instructions for your carb?
