Dodge Durango water hose leak

Not sure what hose you are talking about, but if it is a small hose that goes to the over flow tank you need to replace it. No matter which hose it is in this case it needs to be replaced, and any coolant (anti-freeze) needs to be replenished. You will keep loosing coolant until it is fixed. The coolant system is under pressure and will push out any coolant that is left in the system. This is like oil the engine needs to function properly.

My security system went off on my 99 Dodge Durango and now my car won't stay running

Question moved to Dodge Durango - Cars and Trucks Category. Great reply from our computer guru Larry. Let's put is down here. If it is a factory system, hook up a scanner and look for codes. If the original factory system, look up 'dodge durango security system relearn', but it could be many things. A friend of mine had a third party system with remote starter, he burned out the starter motor twice!

2001 Dodge Durango stuck in 4 wheel-Low. Won't switch back to 2WD

Just to clarify, the "transmission" is not stuck in 4-Lo. It is the "transfer case" that is attached to the transmission that actually engages the 4-Hi and 4-Lo modes. To properly shift your vehicle into 4-Lo, you know that you have to shift the transmission into neutral and slow down to less than 5 mph. Once your vehicle slows down to this range, your can switch your transfer case into 4-Lo mode. Due to the inner workings of the transfer case, the actual shift into 4-Lo may take a few seconds to complete. This is normal and does not signify that there is an issue. All transfer cases that have 4-Lo mode will act this way regardless of the make or model. To make a long story short, to shift out of 4-Lo you must follow the same steps that you took to shift into 4-Lo, just in reverse order. Switch the transfer case to 4-Lo mode if it isn't already there. Slow down to less than 5 mph (your vehicle must be moving, though). Then, shift your car into 4-Hi or 2WD. Give your vehicle several seconds to complete the shift. The transfer case indicator light will flash until it is complete. When it does complete the shift into the new gear mode, you will most likely hear a "clunk" (the range sleeve inside the transfer case disengages from its mating spline) from under your car. Again, any transfer case with 4-Lo (regardless of make or model) will exhibit this same noise. This should help you get out of 4-Lo. It is good practice to shift your car into and out of 4-Lo at least a few times each year to keep all of the splines free of corrosion and build-up. Based on the age of your vehicle, your transfer case may also need a complete flush and some new transmission fluid. Hope this helps.

I have a 2002 Durango with a newly rebuilt transmission, It's 5.9L, and I'm looking at a 2002 Dakota 4dr with 4wd and 4.7L! will the transmissions interchange???

No. I don't know if the 46RE transmission from the 5.9L Durango will bolt up to the 4.7L in the Dakota (I don't think it will), but more importantly, the Dakota controls its current 45RFE transmission electronically, and the powertrain control module (PCM) in the Dakota controls the transmission through a transmission control module (TCM). Even if you could mechanically get the 46RE installed behind the 4.7L in the Dakota, you'd have to do a lot of major modifications to the electronics to get it to work properly.

Smoking

Are you loosing coolant? If you are, you may have a leaking head gasket. Coolant will leak into the cylinder and is turned to steam as the engine is running and comes out the exhaust as steam.

2006 Dodge Durango 5.7L lightning bolt won't start

If it will turn over but it wont start; try checking the crankshaft position sensor. its on passenger side of the engine close to the front by the EGR valve. If you dont have an EGR valve, (idk which years have them and which ones dont. my Hemi is a 2004 Ram and it does.), then look close to where the head meets the block. (It reads the wheel at the crank.) If that has gone bad, you will most likely get a lightning bolt warning light and it will not start. I keep a spare under my seat so I dont have to pay for a tow. Its one bolt to take out and if I remember correctly you twist the sensor a bit to remove it.

4.9 Durango motor interchange

For the 4.7L v8 (I couldn't find any listings for 4.9L): 2000- early 2002 Durango, 2000- early 2002 Dakota, 2002 Ram 1500, 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In later part of 2002, Durangos and Dakotas changed the reluctor/cam gear on the right camshaft for the cam pickup sensor, and changed the tone wheel on the crankshaft from 16 tooth to 32 tooth.

Dodge Durango new water pump but still heating up

Check for a clogged radiator. Also check for proper fan operation. Do not mess with the cap. That has nothing to do with overheating.
