Why can't I open metal flap cover for access to
petrol cap?
Usually there's a cable running to a lever, near the floor, just left of the driver's seat; you should see it when you open the car door. If the cable breaks, I'm not sure what you can do to get it open. Some shim stock might release the cover if you shove it into the latch side of the cover.
Citroen Xantia fog and reversing lights not working
Check Fuse F3. It supplies 12v to the reverse switch located on the transmission. If auto transmission (4HP14) the switch will have 4 pins, 2 for reverse light, 2 for starting circuit. If manual, it has two pins. When gear is in other position, only one pin will have 12v. When gear is in R, both pins will have 12v. The 2nd pin supplies directly to the reversing light. Fog light has connectors behind the bumper. It tends to get corroded. Disconnect and clean both side of the connectors and retry. Some may get the wires snapped. Check there first. Fuse F18,F7 and F6 supplies 12v to the foglight circuit. F6 supplies to the foglight relay. Check the relay too.
2.1 i stalling
Your fuel injection pump may need to be re calibrated. Check, clean or replace fuel filters if not done yet. Check pre-heating circuit runs properly. Diesel train tends to get ingested with water more frequently. Drain fuel filter of any water.
Citroen Xantia AUTO 2.0 alert lights cold (sport and snow lights)
The S light is also used like a 'check engine' light for auto transmission. There maybe some error in the transmission control system. You transmission has a computer that controls a lot of valves and solenoids in it. Check your transmission fluid level and it's integrity. If you have not changed the fluid for the last 50000kms then it's due for a change. Use only Peugeot recommended fluid. Other fluids will damage it. Mention your transmission type when buying. It's either AL4 or 4HP20. Best to buy it from authorized dealer. Garages that have a Lexia 3 scanner can scan for error codes for the transmission.
How to change a Xantia bottom ball joint
Depressurize the hydraulic system. Jack the front and put on jack stands (both left and right side). Remove wheels. Slacken and unscrew the ball joint nut partially. Release ball joint from knuckle using a proper separation tool. Once dislodged, remove ball joint nut and pull out strut/knuckle away from lower arm. You may need to push down the arm with a lever. Remove dust cover from the ball joint. The ball joint can be removed by unscrewing it using a tool that locks into the notches on the sides of the ball joint. Install new one by screwing in the ball joint back into the knuckle.Tighten well.
Citroen xantia alarm & stop light on dash
PSA cars with analog instrument clusters have the STOP light to alert drivers of irregularities in engine temperature or coolant that may cause severe damage to the engine. Check your radiator coolant level and top up when it's low. Don't forget to bleed the air from the cooling system. If problem persist, check for loose connectors to the Coolant Temperature Sensor(mounted on the cylinder head) and the Coolant Level Sensor (mounted on the side of the coolant refill tank). For the alarm, check ALL door switches including those for the front hood and the rear trunk. They may be shorted to earth or one of the door becomes ajar. Next time the alarm triggers, check which door looked like it's slightly opened. If so, realign the door hook located in the door pillar.
How to chang the lhm
It's a job with some risks. You need to remove the reservoir and empty it's content in a proper disposal container. Remove the two filters located on the center of the reservoir and clean them with clean petrol. Clean the insides of the reservoir the same way. Air blow them and reinstall. Fill reservoir with LHM and prime the hydraulic system. The procedure for Hydractive system is different from the non-Hydractive one. Check which system is being used for your car
Where is the body ecu located
Engine ECU is located in the engine bay, on the driver side(RHD). Body electrical has no ECU (earlier models). Citroen Berlingo uses what is called 'Multifunction Control Modules'. It has 2 of them. One is located in the steering column switch assembly and the other is incorporated inside/underneath the fuse/relay frame in the engine bay. If your Xantia is late model, it may adopt the Berlingo system but I have not seen one that does.
Citroen xantia electrics are shorting out
If it's an automatic, check if the lever is at P or N. Check if your car has immobilizer that needs you to enter codes before it will start. Gauges moving full scale usually indicates that the instruments cluster is 'missing' an additional IGN supply. When you turn your key to the ON position, all lights in the cluster will light up. This position will make the ignition switch supply 2 IGN power to most electrical systems. If one is missing, the car may not start. Check all fuses under the fascia and in the engine bay. Be on the look out for fuses that have melted 'seats'. They may give intermittent power. Xantia's fuse slots gets melted with age, so the fuse becomes loose and supply gets disconnected.
