If its a light ticking noise it may be your valve train, if its a heavier knock it would most likely be your bottom end, crank/bearings etc...

Try a new plug. Chances are the carbon build up on the old plug is providing a ground path for the spark to the motor.

2004 Kawasaki Bayou 300 4x4 how to change the rear axle bearings

this video's may help you with you're problem. \/
Also for pulling the bearing out of the axle I recommend a bearing puller set you can buy cheep online and rent a slide hammer from most auto shop's another video about the tool. \/
and use a socket that has the same outer diameter as the bearing to install.
If the rear axle is not the same please disregard this
but the video may still give you some insight as of whats ahead.

1998 Bayou 300 4 wheeler will not engage reverse gear, no previous problem need possible cause

Could be an electrical problem. If it doesn't sense the neutral position signal it will not go into reverse. If your neutral light comes on then it may be a loose connection after the light. This is on of a few things to check out first

valves make a ticking noise, knocking comes from your bottom end (crank bearings etc). try a thicker oil and see if it changes anything
