Just because it's new, doesn't mean it works.
This is why cars get recalled.
The iron-clan test of a non-working solenoid is to cross the relay terminals. If you do and it starts.. it's bad.
Take it back. you purchased a dud. It happens.
1St... have your battery checked by a battery/alternator/generator shop! Make sure you haven't left a wire off or a ground loose somewhere else. If the solenoid doesn't work with the starter button, first check, with a multimeter, to see if you are getting a zero ohms to the positive side of the solenoid from the positive side of the battery.. (do not check voltage this way!!!!) If you have zero ohms from battery + to the red side of the solenoid, you should , if not, find out why? This is a critical, must work check!!Next- If the solenoid works only when you jump the big terminals, its bad. Will it crank and run when you "jump" the solenoid?? When you install the new solenoid, make sure the battery is disconnected, connect ground first...this should fix it!
Use test light to see if your getting power though the solinoid,,to the stareter,,or use 2 scredrivers to bypass the solinoid,, on the top by touching the 2 sides together,, if so bo noid,,, if not bad starter or starter wire or loose ground
