MY HONDA FOURTRAX 300 WAS VERY LOW ON REAR END OIL AND IT STARTED MAKING POPPING NOISES. TRIED TO ADD OIL BUT WHEN I DID ,I THINKINK THERE WERE GEAR SHAVINGS IN THE OLI.WHAT AM I GOING TO HAVE TO DO TO FIX IT?
I purchased a 2000 Honda Foreman 4x4 and changed all fluids. I put synthetic differential oil in the front and rear differentials.
The problem I am have after about 6 months is the front wheels are not pulling like they use to.
Before I changed the fluids with the front wheels jacked up I could not turn the front wheels but now with very little effort I can turn the front wheels.
Did I make a mistake in using the synthetic oil and if so what is my recourse?
Sorry to hear about the metal shavings... full and total disassembly is required! ALL bearings, and if the gear has chipped teeth, they won't last long if you try to use them. The gear teeth are "case hardened", once they are chipped, the soft under metal is exposed and will self-destruct in just a few miles and you get to do this again!!! --- do not use synthetic oil/fluid.
You May need to Replace the Bearings. My Husband and I are doing that to one now, The Gear is Chipped in a lot of places, and we just replaced all the bearing in 2008. and are having to do it again. We priced it and are goin to have to replace the whole rear end, to save money
