How do you get the front drive line out of a polaris ranger 1000xp rancher. I have both ends off the gear cases

make sure the shift rod is not bent and is fully engaging the forward gear, may just need adjustment.

First off be careful because you will be working under your vehicle.
Check your linkages, fittings, bolts (that none are missing), and splines.
Obtain a new gasket and gear oil then drain and remove the inspection cover (s). Check that the gears, splines, bushings, bearings, etc. are good and intact.
Check oil sump areas for fragments or broken parts.
My guess something inside the transfer case has snapped but you never know could be something that came loose.

I'm in the UK and not familiar with your particular vehicle..
However, the front gearbox as you call it is probably a transfer unit/case. This transfer case takes power from your auto transmission and transfers it to the front wheels.

You can remove the front propshaft (drive shaft) from the transfer case/front differential and make your vehicle 2 wheel drive. This, supposedly, gives you better mpg.

It sounds like it could possibly be the ring gear in the rear differential. (Where the drive shaft enters the diff.) If the ring gear gets stripped the drive shaft will turn but it's not transferring that power to the rear axle. Lift the rear end off the ground and spin the rear wheel by hand. Listen for a clicking sound at the rear differential. If it is clicking then I would bet the ring gear is stripped.

im having the same type of issue but with a sportsman 500 but it goes about 5 feet and locks into 4x4 stearing jerks and brings itssel to a stop im thinking electrical or front diff or even transfer case.
