Morning,, yes I did find the problem.. previous person that worked on it installed the main jet tube upside down. The Red one with the two "O" rings on it. I cut off the crimped end and opened the hole and reinstalled it and it started right up.... Thanks anyways....

This can only be lack of fuel for some reason backfire is nearly always lean fuel condition and the cut out pretty much confirms lean or no fuel?
I would be checking the size of main jet (they numbered) double check it is factory size? I would check the needle clip position god knows why but people change the position so double check it is factory setting (usually 3 or 4 notches from top is factory setting I forget which one it is for Honda's) I would double check your air filter is clean and/or not oil drenched
refer to your manual or ring your Honda dealer for all the specs
Some other possibilities would be spark plug fail at high load (but unlikely?) stator failing at high RPM ( unlikely but worth the two minute multi meter test to make sure resistances is still in spec)
good luck regards Jamie

2005 Yamaha Bruin 350 ATV. What will cause my ATV not to run? Gas is coming from drain tube?

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from motorcycles to ATV model category.

Turning over has nothing to do with the carburetor! Your battery is flat. It will need charging.

If the carb is leaking, it is because the float is set wrong or the float valve needle isn't seating properly.

Engines only need three things to run.

A supply of clean fresh fuel (not sitting a year)
A Spark at the right time.
Compression.

You say you cleaned the carb **in** carb cleaner, as opposed to *with* carb cleaner. Did you strip it down, check the float for holes, clean the jets and needles?

2009 honda rancher 420 Starts and idles but when you throttle it dies

This sounds like a basic Main Jet clog. I suppose it could also be a semi-clogged fuel filter, but the Main jet is more likely. This is assuming that the engine is not fuel injected. As I do not know the type of carb I cannot give you any of the easy cheats to try for a quick check, but for older carbs with a slide you can pull the slide out and use compressed air to shoot some air down the main jet hole at the bottom. Otherwize, the "Best" way is to disassemble and clean. This is a "Guess" at best, however I have seen this very problem several times on multiple carbs. Good Luck.

2004 Yamaha Beartracker, new carb. Runs OK at idle but bogs down when I hit the throttle and won't reach higher RPM.

Sounds to me like your not getting enough fuel change fuel filter and tak gas out of tank and clean it out a few times as the screen in the tank may be clogged also if you have an electronic fuel pump make sure it is working properly

I have a 2005 Arctic Cat 500 that will crank and run great. Push the throttle acts starving for gas. I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel line, and cleaned the tank. Also replaced carb. NEED HELP!

Try running it with the cap off the tank. Sometimes the cap will fail and wont allow air back into the tank when you draw fuel from it. This starves the engine of fuel.

Carb seems to be the issue

There is a high and low jets in the carb need to remove both and clean blow threw the port on the jet holes to make sure there is no blockage

Hey Dave,
thought I answered this already,,,??? Classic "brass kit" symptom! >>> You need a "brass kit".. this is the needle jet and the jet needle in the center of the carb. The jet needle is the thin needle that hangs down from the center of the slide... The needle jet is the "hole" that the jet needle slides into...Remove the carb, take the bowl off, remove the main jet, the needle jet holder should be able to be gently tapped out, the needle jet is a short brasspiece,, it comes out through the hole where the slide goes,,, reinstall the NEW needle jet, needle jet holder...(it may have a groove in it for correct location). once its seated, you can reinstall the main jet..NOW >> to install a new jet needle,,, remove the slide from the carb.. remove the spring and seat from the slide that holds the needle jet in place.. NOTE which groove the clip is in on the old needle.... (should be the middle one). re install the new needle, reinstall everything else and your atv WILL run fine for a long time..This is a common problem on ATV's..

First question since i am assuming it was just sitting around for some time if i am correct you need to pull the carb remove the float bowl and components if everything was done correctly with your rebuild the likely problem is your carb is gummed up remove everything in the carb low speed jet etc. soak everything in sea foam fuel cleaner overnight and hopefully you have some compressed air and blow out that low speed jet and passage way pay close attention that you have see fluid coming from the other end and check the jet make sure it is unclogged hold it up to the light.
