500 sportsman which was running fine last summer dies out when given throttle. Once it dies out it is very difficult to get started again unless you let machine sit for hour or so. I did allow it to set in garage over winter without removing fuel and since topped on tank with fresh fuel this summer. Any thoughts as to problem?

SOURCE: engine on my 04 sportsman 400 wo'nt idle unlesss

there is an electronic position sensor in the throttle housing and if the throttle cable sticks even a little the sensor interrupts the flow of electricity and disables the engine to prevent loss of control so chase down your cable and lubricate it and make sure you have full range of movement

SOURCE: polaris 500 sportsman awd not working

the usual problem with those is either the switch itself or the magnetic hubs at the front wheels
The factory service manual will tell you how to check both

2004 sportsman 700 was running fine when a loud pop occurred and then it just died and then no electrical at all

It sounds like a major electrical failure occurred in your 2004 Sportsman 700. The loud pop you heard may have been a blown fuse or a damaged component in the electrical system. Without any electrical power, it will be difficult to diagnose the problem or start the vehicle. It is recommended to take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic or dealership for further inspection and repairs.

2010 sportsman 500 hd runs then dies turns over won't start

My opinion, it's running rich and letting it idle for 5 minutes doesn't help. Whether it's carbed or EFI, when the machine is cold, it needs more fuel. As engine temperature increases, it doesn't need as much fuel, and the carbon that started building up on the plug is burned back off. When a machine isn't ran for very long, carbon deposits continue to build on the plug. The carb itself may need to be rejetted/adjusted, it it's running rich,

I have a 2004 polaris sportsman 500 when it gets hot it cuts off and back fires

Does the cooling fan ever run when the engine is hot? If not, you may have a problem with the fan thermostat.

For the record, spray carburetor cleaner does no good if it's sprayed on the outside of the carburetor with the engine running. That's not what it's for.

I have a small 4wheeler that is hard to start and will not idle it will run at speed but if you stop it doesn't idle it dies

Your pilot jet in the carb is plugged up or to small you will have to pull the carb out and clean it if you have a wire brush you can use 1 of the needles off it that will fit in the tiny hole in the pilot jet push it through and then spay carb cleaner through it and the main jet put back together and it should run fine

2008 polaris sportsman 500 won't start, but relay clicks and will start when relay terminals are jumped

I have seen this on a few machines. Start tracing wires. Ground wire from the key is the first on Id check. Grounds on these machines go bad from vibration and rough terrain. Not to mention silt in the water.
