On my Suzuki twin peaks 700 which is a kawi engine I have replaced the starter gear got everything back together started it up and after a few days noticed the oil light flashing .I took it to my dealer and after removing the side cover noticed the oil pump was broke , after ordering all new parts the dealership replaced all pump components cleaned everything and has put it back together ,2 day ago I get a phone call saying that the oil lite it flashing and their is no oil pressure pump has broken again what could be causing this
Pump is suffering excessive oil pressure
you are very short on the details of the failure --broken shaft , gears , chain housing etc but I would be checking oil passage blockages, faulty pump pressure regulator spun bearing that the pump feeds into the oil galleys

I assume you rocked it back and forth to try to get it out of gear. Usually there is a lock-out that prevents the starter from operation when it is in gear. I don't know your specific model but you would have to defeat that feature to crank the engine. Not a good idea.
You really have to get it in neutral because even if you got it started you are looking at some other problem with the transmission.
